My Dad’s 90th Birthday

My Father celebrated his 90th birthday this week. Pretty incredible, huh? Even more so because he’s still working, he remains very active, and is as inquisitive as ever. I hope I’m in as great shape, when I turn 90.

Being 90, my dad has seen a lot of changes during his life. He’s sailed on steamers and flown in propeller planes, seen space walks and men walk on the moon. He’s lived through wars and repression that few of us can fathom, lived in many different countries, and is fluent in several languages. He’s healed the sick, been a teacher, raised children, and dedicated his life to serving the greater good.

We’ve had our moments like many fathers and sons, but we made our peace many years ago and have remained close even through we live far apart. As I’ve gotten older, I can see his influence on me everyday. He taught me the joy of walking and swimming, of reading and writing, of wandering, taking risks and being my own man.

I’m proud of my Dad.

I saw my dad the other day and I completely enjoy his good company in our older age. We skirt some of the difficulties (different politics) and celebrate the similarities (there are SO many which makes me wonder about the different politics). Mostly we laugh a lot.

How wonderful your dad looks so vital and happy.

    Congratulations to both of you.

  9. Thank you for sharing your dad with us. Happy birthday to him. As said previously, he is part of the "greatest generation". From one whose parents are both deceased, if you haven't already done so, take the time to interview him at length and record it. Years from now when he is gone, you will cherish listening to his voice and the stories he tells.
