Vegan Jerky
Have you been reading a lot of blogger reviews about Primal Strips lately? It seems that the manufacturer ran a concerted campaign to get the word out to the backpacking community about their tasty meatless, vegan jerky. Can’t blame them, I guess.
I’ve been eating my supply of samples steadily since getting back from Scotland and took the last half dozen backpacking last weekend. Admittedly, the stuff is good and comes in a variety of flavors from Texas BBQ to Mesquite Lime.
I thing I like best about this vegan jerky is its texture. It’s far moister than regular beef or turkey jerky and makes a nice compliment to a backpacking meal. Primal Strips don’t have a lot of calories if you are watching your food weight to energy ratios carefully. Still the added flavor variety is a treat and will keep your food bag from getting too boring.

Of all the good tips I've gotten from this site, this one is by far my favorite. Vegan jerky? Oh, hell yes.
what Timmy said!
I love, love, love Primal Strips!! The Lime Mesquite is my favorite. So tangy! Mmmm. I need to just buy a case of it. :P
If you like this sort of thing and have an authentic Asian food store nearby, they have a lot of soy-based "jerky" for sale at a good price. I like the Ta-brook (can't remember the actual spelling, this is phonetic) brand from Taiwan. Some of it can get pretty spicy.
Hey, I just wanted to drop by and thank you for the kind words about my review. I'm enjoying your blog a good bit – I'm just getting into real backpacking. Between you and Dressed in Dirt, I'm seriously getting showered in good info!
