RailRiders Hiking Shirt Raffle: Favorite Foods After a Hike

Cape Code Kettle Chips

I think about food when I’m hiking: a lot. And when I get off the trail after a long day hike in the mountains or a backpacking trip, I make a beeline for my favorite after-hike foods:

  • A 20 ounce bottle or two of freezing cold Classic Coke
  • Big bag of Cape Cod Potato Chips

Sugar, Salt, and Fat! Yum.

I usually pick these up before I drive home and eat them in the car.

Gyros or Doner Kebap. For some reason I crave them while on the trail. Hard to find good ones between where I live and hike, but so worth it!

Pepperoni pizza and Coke. Not sure what else to say, it just hits the spot.

PB&J made with chunky pb and dark chocolate M&M’s. Seems like I’ve tried everything else over the year’s and these are what I always wind up coming back to.

Ice cold glass of milk and …. it doesn’t matter, as long as there is a glass of milk :-)

Definitely a large meat lover’s pan pizza and many glasses of Coke to help feed the calories back into the system. Works every time.

I fantasize about a good serving of fresh Hummus with a big slice of onion and a warm pita. A lemonade on the side is also welcomed.

    Hot Tamales candy and rootbeer.

Hot Tamales candy is one of my trail snacks. I buy a large box and divide it up into Ziploc snack bags–otherwise it will all be gone on the first day! I also divide up a pack of chocolate chips and caramel nuggets. My dentist thoroughly endorses my snack regimen.

Depending on the country where I’m hiking my choice of food divers. In Italy it’s always been a huge pizza, freshly backed in the oven. That’s just something I can’t do on trail. Preparing a real pizza with a crunchy rim, melted cheese, fresh tomatoes…
    Um, my mouth’s already watering…
Returning home from anywhere else my first choice of food is usually pasta. And chips. And shandy. And anything else I can lay may hands on!

After a bunch of mostly sweet snacks during hiking, I always long for something salty and warm. So first comes a cup of hot soup (any type), then any hot meal is greatly appreciated, my only wish is to let it be A LOT :)

Like most of you– I am thirsty, stinky, tired, and hungry. My dream situation is to be picked up by my beautiful wife, showered with affection and fed with fried chicken and several cold beer.
Reality is–i find my truck while in a semi conscious state, find a McDonalds, get a greasy meal and a strong x large double double coffee, drive home with radio blasting to keep me awake. I get home and the beautiful wife tells me I stink and go have a shower. No affection. I crash
