David Miller, author of the Appalachian Trail Guide recently published the revised 2013 edition of this must-have trail guide. If you’re planning to thru hike the trail this year, chances are you already have a copy and you’ve already left Springer Mountain in Georgia. But if you don’t have the 2013 edition yet, or you are planning a section or thru hike later in the year, here’s a chance to win a free copy.
With mile-by-mile information about the trail, trail shelters, and the trail towns bordering it, the AT Guide is an invaluable aid for planning hikes and dealing with whatever the trail throws at you on your journey (click here for my full review of the AT Guide).

Legs ache, sweat breaks
I hike for the horizon
And the raven laughs
Sorry, edit..
Legs ache, my sweat breaks
I hike for the horizon
And the raven laughs
Healing for the soul
Strengthens the heart,and body
Hike,breathe,rest,repeat.
You are what you do
Mountain bike, rock climb, trail hike
Facebook do not like
Yes! Foot out the door
Hike hard, hike fast and hike long
The trail awaits me.
Autumn in the woods
Reds, yellows, that musty smell
A beautiful end
Wind blowing, howling
Trail muddy, the hike is long
I feel so alive
Retirement looming
The A.T. beckons me still
One year to thru hike
The sun has returned
Longer days to hike the trail
Reunion with peace
head is in the clouds
feet are still at the trailhead
stop dreaming, hike on
Drifts erase the path
Wind whipped ridge, like cake icing
Nameless hike-steps lead.
Trail-seasoned, they said;
“Remember, hike your own hike”
My mantra each step.
No blaze for awhile
Hike on, yet still none ahead.
Turn around… right there.
Scchhllluck. Muck… sucks… boots… in.
Hike wet, muddy, cold, tired.
Dawn’s warmth beckons me.
His little sack’s full,
We hike to him… trail magic!
Blushed, juicy cherries.
Meandering steps
Marking powdery whiteness;
Winter-still, I hike.
Ordinary days
Just ordinary hike days
Yet miles left behind.
Nature nudges me
A hike to begin the day
Joyous rising sun
