EMS Exodus Fleece Jacket

EMS Exodus Fleece Jacket
EMS Exodus Fleece Jacket

The EMS Exodus Fleece Jacket (MSRP $99) is a heavyweight technical fleece jacket made out of Polartec Thermal Pro that is ideal for wearing in the cool weather days of autumn and winter, either as an outer layer or as a heavy-duty mid-layer (roughly equivalent to a 300 weight fleece) under a windproof and waterproof hard shell.

The Exodus is configured as a technical fleece jacket with numerous pockets and pit zips under the arms for venting excess heat as your exertion level increases. The pit zips are quite generous in length, running from just above the elbow to mid-torso enabling you to regulate your temperature and evaporate perspiration in a wide range of conditions, such as when snowshoeing or climbing a big hill while wearing a backpack.

I am a big fan of pockets and the Exodus Jacket has these in abundance including two large large napoleon pockets over the chest and two cavernous handwarmer sized pockets at waist level on the sides of the jacket. The pockets are large enough to stash heavy fleece gloves, extra hats, a map and compass, snacks, and a point and shoot camera with room to spare.

Intended for cold weather and winter use, the Exodus has an interior storm flap behind the main zipper and a hem cinch cord to keep the cold from blowing up the sides of the jacket. The sleeve cuffs also narrow at the hands and wrists, preventing further loss of warmth where one’s blood flow is so close to the skin.

The outside of the Exodus jacket has a smooth weave like a softshell jacket , while the inside is a high pile traditional fleece providing the tried and true breathability, moisture transfer and warmth that makes fleece such a popular mid-layer for cool weather outdoor activities.

  • Center-front full-zip with interior storm flap
  • Pit-zips allow for easy regulation of excess heat
  • Two vertical zippered chest pockets for essentials
  • Two zippered handwarmer pockets
  • Hem cinch cord to keep the cold out
  • Pull tabs on all zippers
  • Close fitting wrist cuffs to minimize heat loss
  • Lined collar for extra comfort and warmth
  • Reinforced chest pockets for greater durability

Bottom line:  I am a big fan of EMS Fleece outerwear because it’s well made, functional, and inexpensively priced, especially when compared to other manufacturer’s brands. The EMS Exodus Fleece Jacket in a best buy in my book and a great technical mid-layer for cold weather activities.

  1. I just scored this jacket last night at the store in Patriot Place on sale for $50, I’m psyched, and your review makes me feel even better about it, thanks! I really enjoy all your blog posts, thank you.

    • It’s a great coat. I’ve been using it for about a month on cool weather hikes and even wear it in the house because my wife won’t turn up the heat. Very comfortable and the pit zips rule. Glad you got one too!
