Why We Like The Garmin inReach Mini 2

The inReach Mini 2 gives us the same compact communication means as its predecessor but now with loads more battery life and features. Rather than lasting hours, it lasts days, letting us use it for much more than just check-ins on our multi-day missions. With the new ability to sync with Garmin Explorer, we can plan our course on the computer screen and save it to this palm-sized device. As we venture well beyond cell coverage, the new electronic compass gives us an accurate heading as we stand still, while the addition of Galileo gives us a quicker and more precise satellite lock, even with some tree cover. If we get turned around, the addition of TracBack routing helps us find our way.

Small Package, Great Features

I have had this device for about a month. I have used it twice and have a third trail loaded in it for use. This device is so nice and convenient! It does a great job communicating with loved ones back home while out on the trail. It does a great job tracking and providing you options for way points. Most of all, I could not believe how compact the unit is. I recommend this unit for the avid hiker, biker, or backpacking adventurer.

Works Great

I bought this for a 8 day offroad trip in Mexico sense most of the trip would be very remote areas of Baja as I new we would not have any communication for emergencies or to let family know we were ok. I had 0 issues with connectivity or tracking and was able to sed messages as needed. I tracked each days travel in rough terrain usually between 6-9 hours each day. I never charged it once and ended the trip with over 55% battery life. I only reported every 10 minutes since we already had a pre-established route and maps. Overall I am pretty happy with this new capability for remote camping and traveling.

Love it so far

I did purchase this in reach mini 2 about 1 month ago. It's been a great little unit so far. I will be going on a through hike at the end of May. I wanted to test it for a little bit before I went on my hike just to make sure I knew all the features. Very excited to have this and looking forward to being able to give my wife peace of mind while I'm out on a trail

So far great but

I like this. It’s been very useful. I wish they would have told me you have to pay for a month of subscription right away to activate it, I would have waited until I was ready to use it.

Hard to use

Every time I buy a Garmin Explorer (I’ve had 2 now), I think there’s got to be a better way. They are too complicated to use. Tiny little screens, good luck if you don’t want to download the Garmin app to make it all work on your phone. Not an intuitive device. I end up buying them & using them solely for the SOS capabilities and the use Gaia instead for tracking & navigation.

Love My Mini 2

Very happy and rather simple to use. Love the weather report feature, the size, and weight. As a thru hike of longer trails, the Mini Inreach 2 only makes sense. Thank Garmin

Works very well and great insurance for safety

I bought this device for my bi-annual hiking trip. I set it up and had my wife take it on a road trip to test it out before I used it to go hiking. The inReach Mini 2 worked very well for tracking and updating the location and text messges went through when there was no cellular signal. This is a great device and works very well as a tracking device for family to have some 'peace of mind' while you're out hiking the country side.

Peace of mind

Been using for a month now and since hiking alone with two bad knees it has given my family some peace of mind knowing where I am hiking. It is a shame that Garmin nickel and dimes you with extra costs for almost everything. Tracking points along your route are helpful, but of course none are included in the base plan so you either turn them off or pay extra. Since I am retired and hike most days, this cost quickly adds up. So far able to stay under the 10 message per month included amount, but doesn't allow me to let anyone know status by message.

Battery about lasts 55 hours

The claim that the battery lasts 2 weeks is false. 55 hours has been the maximum.

Feeling of security!

I bought my Mini 2 a couple of months ago but just used it on a multi day backpacking trip. We had no cell service and I felt so much better being able to let family members know we were safe. And also, being able to check the weather was awesome! I love it.
