Mountain Hardware Dome Perignon Hat Review: A Timeless Classic
My warmest winter hat is a Mountain Hardware Dome Perignon beanie. It’s a timeless classic in hiking and mountaineering circles. This is the hat I put on when I’m hiking back down a mountain in winter and I feel the cold wind biting through my insulating layers. Putting it on is an instant warm-up.
The name is a pun on Dom Perignon, the famous vintage french champagne. “Dome” for “Dom”.
What makes this hat so warm?
It’s windproof for starters, so cold wind can’t lance through it. Made with Jacquard Sweater Fleece (Polartec 200 weight), this hat has body, weighing almost 3 times more than a regular fleece beanie.
But the coup de grace, if you will, are the articulated ear flaps that hang from the stretch fleece headband sewn into the headband of the hat. While they do muffle sounds a bit, your ears will thank you.
They don’t make hats like the Dome Perignon anymore.
